Experience the magic of the holiday season with our exclusive Christmas Lunch aboard one of our beautifully restored carriages and hauled by one of our heritage diesel locomotives.
Embark on a delightful return journey from Tempe or Sutherland to Bombo, where you’ll be immersed in a classic Australian Christmas atmosphere. Your adventure begins at either Tempe or Sutherland, where you will be warmly welcomed aboard our vintage train with a complimentary glass of bubbles, setting the tone for a festive day.
As we depart from Sutherland, the early dining sitting commences, allowing you to indulge in a sumptuous meal while the stunning landscapes of the Royal National Park and South Coast glide by your window. Feel the tranquility of rail travel as you savor the flavors of the season.
Upon arrival at Bombo, guests dining in the early lunch sitting will transition to our cozy air conditioned lounge carriage for relaxation while the late lunch sitting will get to enjoy the dining car and their meal experience begins beside Bombo beach, for the gently meandering journey home.

First Class Lunch - Air Conditioned Dining Car

Early Lunch Sitting - 11:00am - 1:15pm
Boarding into our air conditioned dining car at Tempe or Sutherland you are treated to glass of bubbles on arrival and you will experience lunch on the way to Bombo Beach where upon arrival you will transfer to our air conditioned lounge car to relax and enjoy a grazing table on the journey home.​​

Late Lunch Sitting - 1:30pm - 4:00pm
Boarding into our air conditioned lounge car at Tempe or Sutherland you are treated to a glass of bubbles and grazing table to settle in whilst you take in the views of the Royal National park as we make our way south to Bombo. Upon arrival at Bombo you will transfer to our Dining Car where your lunch experience begins by the beach and continues on the journey back.
Heritage Lunch - Open window carriage

Boarding into our restored open air 'FS' type carriage you are shown to your compartment and treated to a glass of bubbles to settle in. A grazing platter will be brought to you as the train departs Sutherland to enjoy as we travel through the National Park. Lunch is served as the train nears Bombo where you are able to soak in the beach atmosphere and enjoy the sea breeze with your lunch. Desert will be served on the return journey.

First Class Lunch - Air conditioned Lounge & Dining car - $210 per person
Travel in our air-conditioned dining & lounge car where you have the option of a early or late lunch sitting.

For the traditional Australian Christmas Lunch – a tantalizing trio of gourmet cold meats, perfectly paired with creamy potato salad, crunchy coleslaw, sweet pineapple, and vibrant beetroot. A colourful and flavourful feast for the senses!

Dessert:

A rich, decadent chocolate cake layered to perfection, topped with luscious whipped cream. Each bite is a heavenly experience that satisfies your sweetest cravings!

NOTE: The locomotive rostered for each service cannot be guaranteed and is subject to change due to operational reasons with or without notice. Your ticket is for the journey and is not dependent on the locomotive advertised.
*Indicative times only. Please arrive at least 20 minutes prior to departure. An update email will be sent to the ticket booking a couple of days prior to the event with final details. Train departure and arrival times are subject to change at any time. Should anything change on the day the onboard crew will keep you informed.
Buffet Car:
Drinks will be available for purchase in the buffet car / bar.

The Picnic Train is a licensed venue. We have obligations under our Plan of Management to ensure the safety of passengers. Whilst the Plan of Management and the liquor license act are available should anyone wish to review, some important conditions are
* Alcohol will not be sold to persons under 18 and our team is trained to request proof of age.
* There are maximum limits in place, our team is trained to deny serving alcohol where appropriate.
* No Alcohol is to be taken or consumed off the train.
The Picnic Train is a licensed venue and will be offering alcoholic beverages for sale in the Buffer car. No BYO

Toilets:
Toilets are available in most carriages. These will be locked while in metropolitan areas and in platforms.
Mobile Phones:
There are no charging points on the heritage carriages. It is recommended that you bring an external battery charger for your mobile devices.
