Experience the unique thrill of a heritage rail journey behind steam locomotive R766 as we travel from Canberra to Bungendore and return. Enjoy views of the spectacular Molonglo Gorge, travel through three tunnels and view the rolling country scenery from your heritage carriage.

Southern Steam Tour Transfer Trips

One way steam hauled transfer trains

  • Thursday 27th March - Goulburn to Junee 

  • Monday 7th April - Junee to Goulburn

Join us on a normally empty car transfer from Goulburn to Junee as we re locate our train around the state in preparation for our Southern Steam Tour.

​

Hauling the train will be steam locomotive R766 assisted by some heritage diesels.

Albury Steam Train Rides

Albury to Gerogery (Return)

Steam Locomotive R766 returns to Albury for the first time since its conversion from Broad Gauge to Standard gauge.

​

Enjoy a 130 minute steam hauled journey from Albury to Gerogery and return in our beautifully restored heritage train carriages dating back to the 1930's. Listen to the steam locomotive chuff along as it pulls the train through the countryside.

Wagga Wagga to Cootamundra (Return)

Experience the excitement of a steam train trip behind former Victorian Railways Steam Locomotive R766 as The Picnic Train presents a very special day of journeys between Wagga Wagga and Cootamundra. Traveling each way via the famous 'Bethungra Spiral'. Listen to our steam engine work hard as it climbs the spiral and look back where you have just travelled only a few minutes before. This is not one to miss!

Join us for a fun day out to the Southern Highlands. One of our heritage diesels will haul the train from Sydney Terminal to Enfield Yard where our mighty steam locomotive R766 will take over.

​

R766 will haul our train all the way to either Bowral or Moss Vale. Here you will have an few hours to explore or head for the nearby pub.

Thirlmere Festival Of Steam Picnic Train

Central & Strathfield to Thirlmere (Return)

Join us aboard the Picnic Train for a special return day trip from Sydney to Thirlmere, celebrating the annual Thirlmere Festival of Steam hosted by the NSW Rail Museum.

Step aboard at Tempe or Sutherland and take in the spectacular views of the Royal National Park, the escarpment and ocean as we head for Kiama. There's four hours to explore and have lunch before returning to Sydney.
